DEPARTMENT:                       Cellular Apheresis and Transfusion Services


Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the position involves contacting universities, businesses, and organizations to educate and inform their members about the functions and needs of the National Marrow Donor Program.  Key function includes public presentations, along with scheduling, and coordinating marrow donor registry drives for the Be The Match Registry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.  Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

  • Educate and inform members of the general public, especially the minority community, about the function and the needs of the NMDP.

  • Persuade organizations/businesses with a large percentage of minorities to sponsor marrow donor registry drives.

  • Coordinate minority community donor drives, to include contacting and soliciting the drive sponsors.

  • Establish and maintain rapport with accounts such as universities, businesses, organizations, etc.

  • Assist in preparing material for special events, media or visitors.

  • Maintain close working relationship with Marrow Donor Department Leaders.

  • Establish, maintain and nurture relationships with external community leaders, local transplant center partners and patient families,

  • Responsible for reviewing consent and shipping Buccal swabs from donor drive.

  • Responsible for meeting a monthly quota of donors.

  • Effectively manage/service large accounts/clients and provide excellent customer service. 


This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year related experience to include customer service or sales; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred but not required. Flexibility and ability to travel within the Houston market area is required. Candidate must be organized, detail-oriented with good time management skills. Good public speaking and presentation skills. 


Valid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record.


Computer literate:  Microsoft Office

Must be able to work irregular hours and days as needed (some weekends and evenings are required)
