Position is responsible for coordinating and managing all facets of blood component production and distribution. Has senior leadership responsibility for managing all technical and administrative activities related to the operation of The Blood Center's regional and neighborhood facilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following which may be performed personally or through subordinate managers; other duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

  • Oversee operations related to efficient, effective and compliant production of blood components, ensure optimal distribution and use of blood products, and maintain contact with clients and customers to ensure high level of customer service.
  • Review local blood usage, recommend annual collection and component production objectives as well as determine inventory status in other areas of the country through maintenance of contacts with other blood collectors.
  • Coordinate consistent, regular monitoring of in-house inventory, projected draw, outstanding hospital orders, component expiration rates, consignment/return/import/export activity, and component production projections.
  • Develop, recommend, and/or implement policy and procedural strategies to ensure patient service objectives are obtained.
  • Review newly identified problems and initiate corrective action; review status of outstanding projects affecting production and distribution.
  • Prepare, develop & implement department budget; ensure adherence to department budget, participate in preparation of organizational revenue budget, and communicate concerns regarding departmental functions/needs to executive management.
  • Participate in planning, initiating and monitoring the output of computer programs and functions relating to department operations.
  • Develop, implement and monitor procedures and protocol to facilitate billing reconciliation and document transmittal exchanges between Hospital Services and the Business Office.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with all staff members.
  • Actively participate in customer service, process improvement, quality plan, etc.
  • Continuously monitor the performance of donor collections and donor recruitment activities.
  •  Present proposals for new administrative and technical policies and projects and leadership acumen.

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time:  must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Off-Site Work

Must be occasionally able to work at off-site locations and to transport self to same.


Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, scheduling and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 5 years of previous experience in blood bank administration; or ten years experience in blood bank administration with emphasis on component production and/or inventory management or equivalent combination of education and experience.




Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Ability to clearly present information through the spoken word; influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstances and to listen well; write clearly and effectively present ideas to document activities and to read and interpret a variety of written information.


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Ability to make decisions quickly on available information and to take action; to make commitments and not change decisions when challenged and to deal with emergencies when necessary; to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics.
