The Processing Laboratory Manager, this position assists in overseeing operations and overall management of the Processing Laboratory including supervision of staff, maintenance of all policies, procedures and quality control practices and the maintenance of effective customer and inter/intradepartmental relations.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Organize and supervise daily activities in the NDTS laboratory.  In the absence of the Manager, assumes responsibility of all laboratory operations.
  • Oversee reagent and supply inventory including communicating with vendors, Central Supply and Business Operations
  • Serve as primary contact with the service representatives of all equipment.  Maintain all service reports and communications.
  • Assist with preparation and participate in internal and external audits.
  • Daily ensure all testing (routine, repeat, confirmatory) is performed, committed and transmitted on all internal/external samples; timely notify clients and appropriate internal clients when there are delays.
  • Assist with investigation, documentation and corrective action development for the QIR process.
  • Assist with SOP review, creation, validation, approval and training.
  • Serve as department representative for Project Management activities.
  • Maintain statistical data for all test procedures performed in the NDTS laboratory to include reactive and confirmation data, test completion times, testing totals, etc., for the department and donor center clients. This information should be completed monthly.
  • Evaluate, validate and implement new equipment and/or hardware/software upgrades.
  • Serve as liaison between NDTS and MIS for all computer related issues.
  • Enforce The Blood Center's policies on EEO, Affirmative Action and Safety/Health.
  • Complete at least 12 hours continuing education per year.
  • All duties as assigned.

We need someone who has:

  • CLS (MT) from an accredited program (ASCP or equivalent) preferred. CLT(MLT) may be considered. Minimum of 3 years recent, relevant supervisory and project management experience.  Must have experience with interface between automated equipment and LIS.
  • Official Transcript Must Be Provided And Kept In Personnel File.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • MLS (ASCP) required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as other biohazard materials.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, or extreme cold.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job duties involved an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
