TITLE:                                    Coach Driver

DEPARTMENT:                      BCBV--Regional Center


Safely drive donor coach to and from mobile collection sites, determine donor eligibility, and assist with discontinuing donation process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.

·        Operate Donor Coach to transport staff and equipment to and from mobile site, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by Vehicle Loss Control Committee of the Blood Center.

·        Complete pre-departure and post draw checks of departmental vehicles and equipment.

·        Comply with existing policies and procedures. Maintain upkeep and cleanliness of assigned departmental equipment.

·        Assist the Mobile Supervisor in the inventory of mobile supplies and equipment in assigned vehicle.

·        Perform daily minor checks of vehicle.

·        Advise the Mobile Supervisor on the operation of the mobile team to include immediate notification of technical or administrative errors.

·        Perform pre- donation screening and post-venipuncture care of volunteer donors.

·        Maintain Quality Control by performing calibration of mobile equipment and making adjustments as necessary and reporting malfunction to the Mobile Supervisor.

·        Completion of all official records in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.

·        Assists phlebotomy staff with active donor recruitment.

·        Enforce The Blood Center's policies on EEO, Affirmative Action and Safety/Health.

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time:  must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)

Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Off-Site Work

Must be regularly able to work at off-site locations and to either transport self or be transported to same.


This job has no routine supervisory responsibilities.

High School Diploma or GED and three years experience driving large vehicles and working in a position involving frequent interaction with the public and the use of customer service skills.


Valid Texas Driver's License (B Class - CDL) and acceptable driving record. Must meet standards of The Blood Center’s Vehicle Safety Program. Military veterans with experience operating heavy equipment will be considered but must successfully attain a B-class CDL within 60 days of hire.   


Computer Literate: Must have familiarity with using computers.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively communicate with donors.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials, and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
