GULF COAST REGIONAL BLOOD CENTER

(Location: 1400 La Concha Lane in Houston, Texas 77045) 

TITLE/CODE:                          Desktop Administrator

DEPARTMENT:                      Management Information Systems

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Position provides advanced computer desktop support in a system-wide manner.  Includes providing specifications for purchase of desktop PCs and laptops; managing disk imaging, patches, security software; installing operating systems, Office Suite and all required commercial applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

·        Provide second level support for the Organizational Help Desk phone lines.

·        Provide second level, problem solving support on all PC's and associated peripherals in a timely manner. 

·        Provide full support of Donor-ID Application hardware and related kits used by Donor Collections – Mobiles in liaison with the assigned Systems Analyst and PC Support Analysts.

·        Create solution documentation and automation.

·        Assist in identifying and resolving repeated technical incidents.

·        Provide first level support for remote users in both VPN and VDI environments

·        Ensure organizational software licensing compliance in conjunction with Help Desk.

·        Provide technical documentation on administrative tasks of MS accounts.

·        Assist LAN Administration team with maintaining orderly network closets.

·        Educate PC users on the Local Area Network (LAN) and all software and hardware. supported by the MIS Department through the creation of User Documentation.

·        Act as Help Desk Liaison with other MIS teams such as the LAN Administrators and Systems Analysts.

·        Ensure good inter/intra departmental customer relations.

·        Evaluate and recommend PC software and hardware.

·        Periodically preform on-site visits for known issues, site evaluations, and discovery on unknown issues.

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time:  must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)

Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Off Site Work

Must occasionally be able to work at off site locations and transport self to same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or a related field is strongly preferred. Associate’s Degree can be substituted with comparable experience.  Requires at least 4 years of experience with enterprise level desktop support preferably associated with organization’s software systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas Driver's license and acceptable driving record

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, independently. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including a courteous and professional telephone demeanor.  Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision.
