DEPARTMENT:                      Hospital Services (Product Management)

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Shift Coordinator, position is responsible for completing or assisting in the completion of the duties related to the high volume of orders/deliveries, etc. on the day shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Shift Coordinator or Department Managers. 

  • Perform daily quality control checks and inspections on all departmental storage equipment, label validating, and arrangement of blood components.
  • Assist the Shift Coordinator / designee in calling all service hospitals for stock levels.
  • Accept all phone orders and IMS orders received during the shift and enter them into SafeTrace.
  • Fill all hospital orders and maintain and stock hospital inventories.
  • Perform duties of a Hospital Service Representative or Shipment Expeditor as needed/directed as well as perform duties as the Acting Assistant Shift Coordinator in his/her absence.
  • Properly inspect, pack and prepare quality blood components for clients and deliver blood components to and return from designated locations.
  • Consign all directed and autologous units received from Medical Services and, under the direction of the Shift Coordinator, handle any recalls and/or returned units.

Attendance

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time:  must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)

Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Off-Site Work

Must be able to work at off-site locations occasionally and to either transport self to same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school Diploma or GED and minimum one year of previous job related experience as a Hospital Service Representative required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prior experience in a production or inventory control environment preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

Must meet standards of The Blood Center’s Vehicle Safety Program

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, independently.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent internal and external customer service skills.

Must be able to take oncall responsibilities on a rotating basis.

Must be able to work under high stress at a fast pace.

Computer Literate: Must be familiar with using a computer.

Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
