The Materials and Maintenance Technician is responsible for managing the Equipment and Supply Management (ESM) system, overseeing pre-printed label control and printing for Gulf Coast Blood, and ensuring proper equipment maintenance and compliance documentation for Product Management. This role serves as the primary liaison between vendors and internal teams to support efficient, cost-effective, and compliant operations.

In this role, you will:
Label Control and Documentation
- Receive, print, document and perform quality control of all GCB pre-printed labels in accordance with label control guidelines.
Supplies, Inventory, and Vendor Management
- Manage departmental supplies, equipment and materials including critical supply tracking and quality control.
- Responsible for coordinating with all external vendors for preventative maintenance, repairs and return to service.
- Place and track Purchase Orders to ensure the laboratory maintains adequate supplies and materials needed for efficient, high-quality operations.
Equipment Maintenance and Quality Control
- Support and coordinate departmental equipment installations, repairs, maintenance, calibration, validations, periodic re-qualification and quality control.
- Maintain and organize departmental records to ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Maintain relevant competencies to train all Product Management staff in proper cleaning and use of equipment.
- Serve as a SME for the electronic temperature monitoring system for Product Management.
- Provide subject-matter expertise in selecting new equipment and determining annual capital budget purchases.
- Maintain all equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Collaboratively work with the operational teams to ensure equipment satisfaction.
Compliance, Safety, and Audits
- Departmental SME for equipment for external, internal and departmental regulatory audits.
- Assist with product and process validations as needed.
- Perform regular safety audits throughout Product Management.
- Perform bi-annual shipping tests for shipping containers.
- Perform daily RMW pickup from all affected HQ GCB departments. Responsible for bio-cage cleaning and maintenance. Ensure manifests are reconciled and appropriately stored.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, FDA, AABB, cGMP and other regulatory standards to include maintaining the department in a clean (CLOR) and safe manner.
- Promote and enforce Gulf Coast Blood’s policies regarding Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO).
5S Program and Continuous Improvement
- Responsible for maintaining supply rooms and department work areas to 5S standards by conducting regular 5S audits.
- Lead all 5S initiatives within the department to ensure organization, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Support ongoing initiatives to improve workflow, eliminate waste, and standardize practices to sustain operational excellence.
We need someone who has:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years experience in equipment maintenance and calibration, materials management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in healthcare or manufacturing environments.
- Experience with vendor management and equipment qualification processes.
- Computer Literate: Microsoft Office
We prefer:
- Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) ASQ is a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold.
Job duties involved an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
