The Materials and Maintenance Technician is responsible for managing the Equipment and Supply Management (ESM) system, overseeing pre-printed label control and printing for Gulf Coast Blood, and ensuring proper equipment maintenance and compliance documentation for Product Management. This role serves as the primary liaison between vendors and internal teams to support efficient, cost-effective, and compliant operations.

In this role, you will:

Equipment Maintenance and Quality Control

• Coordinate and support equipment installation, repair, preventive maintenance, calibration, validation, and periodic requalification activities.

• Maintain equipment in a safe, reliable, and operationally ready condition in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Maintain accurate equipment records, including maintenance, calibration, validation, qualification, and service documentation, to support internal and external audits.

• Serve as the departmental subject-matter expert (SME) for equipment-related processes and the electronic temperature monitoring system.

• Maintain required competencies and provide training to Product Management staff on the proper operation, cleaning, care, and safe use of equipment.

• Provide subject-matter expertise and operational input in the evaluation and selection of new equipment and development of annual capital expenditure requests.

• Partner with operational teams to identify equipment needs, resolve issues, and ensure equipment supports safe, efficient, and effective operations.

• Assist with product and process validations and other qualification activities as required.

Label Control and Documentation

• Receive, print, document, and perform quality control checks of Gulf Coast Blood pre-printed labels in accordance with established label control procedures.

• Maintain accurate and traceable documentation related to label issuance, control, reconciliation, and quality checks.

• Ensure departmental records are organized, current, and readily available to support regulatory and quality audits.

Supplies, Inventory, and Vendor Management

• Manage departmental supplies, equipment, and materials to ensure adequate availability and appropriate quality control.

• Monitor and maintain critical supply inventories and proactively identify potential shortages or supply risks.

• Coordinate with external vendors for preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, calibration, service, and return-to-service activities.

• Place, monitor, and track purchase orders to ensure the department maintains adequate supplies, materials, and services to support efficient, high-quality operations.

• Maintain effective vendor relationships and follow up on outstanding service, supply, and equipment-related issues.

Compliance, Safety, and Audits

• Serve as the departmental equipment SME during internal, external, and regulatory audits and provide supporting documentation as required.

• Conduct regular safety audits throughout the Product Management department and coordinate follow-up actions to address identified risks.

• Perform biannual shipping-container tests and maintain required documentation and records.

• Perform daily regulated medical waste (RMW) pickup from designated GCB departments and maintain the bio-cage in a clean, safe, and compliant condition.

• Ensure RMW manifests are accurately reconciled, maintained, and appropriately retained.

• Maintain departmental compliance with applicable OSHA, FDA, AABB, cGMP, and other regulatory and organizational requirements.

• Maintain departmental work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition in accordance with established CLOR and organizational standards.

5S Program and Continuous Improvement

• Maintain supply rooms, equipment areas, and departmental workspaces to established 5S standards.

• Conduct regular 5S audits and identify opportunities to improve organization, efficiency, safety, and workflow.

• Collaborate with operational teams to identify opportunities to eliminate waste, standardize processes, improve workflow, and sustain operational excellence.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

We need someone who has:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 2–3 years experience in equipment maintenance and calibration, materials management, or a related field.

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance in healthcare or manufacturing environments.

• Experience with vendor management and equipment qualification processes.

  Certifications / Licenses

• Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) ASQ is a plus
