Position Title: Medical Services Safety and Education Specialist

Reporting to the Medical Director, this position focuses on identifying issues related to donor reactions, including identifying predictors of reactions before and after donation, tracking injuries, performing gap analysis, and designing and executing appropriate mitigation measures through education and community outreach. This role will also assist the Medical Services Department with management of the directed donor and donor wellness programs.

In this role, you will:
- Review and document donor reactions and injuries reported by forward-facing donor collections staff, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Travel to collection sites, including mobile drives, to observe behaviors and assess the culture and attitudes toward donor safety.
- Address donor safety concerns by developing and delivering targeted educational curriculum and training programs to mitigate adverse reactions and injuries and to emphasize donor safety standards.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and incident trend analysis, and revise programs where required to improve outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to promote donor wellness initiatives in the community by evaluating the health needs of our donor community and tailoring programs to support these.
- Gather and analyze donor safety and health data to identify patterns and conduct statistical gap analyses to inform and enhance donor safety education.
- Analyze current directed blood donation initiatives for adherence to standard of care, medical necessity, and safety concerns while confirming if improvements are needed to training and/or processes.
- Collaborate with other departments within Gulf Coast Blood to accomplish initiatives and achieve common organizational goals.
- Manage multiple projects effectively and within tight timeframes.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
We need someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, health education, public health, or a related field. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or relevant credentials preferred. Strong communication and organization skills, and proficiency in data analysis.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Must have reliable vehicle to transport self to various donor and group sites (mileage reimbursed).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may possibly be exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
