Reporting to the Manager – Operational Support, this position monitors all aspects of the Quality System Program in Donor Collections for the proper documentation of technical and clerical errors, notifies appropriate managers of trends and provides or produces reports.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.  Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

  • Review and assess quality control and other documents from mobile and facility operations.
  • Review, investigate and resolve problems regarding release or discard of blood components.
  • Communicate errors or irregularities to management staff and assist in the follow up to determine cause.
  • Assist in developing and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Review and determine acceptability of apheresis and whole blood QC records and exceptions on donor records.
  • Assist with development and implementation of departmental SOPs. Respond to questions from staff on documentation SOPs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations that impact reference tables and recommend or draft revisions to same as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring effectiveness of Quality Systems Programs including incident but not limited to management and process improvement.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly reports on quality issues and forward to management in a timely manner.
  • Participate in organizational assessment teams organized and guided by the GCRBC Quality Assurance Department.

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.

Regular Hours

Full time: must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.

Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)

Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.

Weekend and Holidays

Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.  This position requires that weekends and holidays be worked on a rotating basis.


Must be available to be called in to work or to take and process phone calls while away from the work site.


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Associate's degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of related experience, preferably in a health care setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


This position requires successful completion of Donor Services Training program and completion of annual competency assessment with a passing result, based on processes involved in the medical history, physical exam and collection of voluntarily donated blood/components.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.



Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.


Must be able to form independent or unassisted conclusions and perform complete and thorough reviews of any document or form used in Donor Collections.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Must be able to perform tasks and assignments independently and work with minimal supervision.

Ability to plan and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Must be able to be subject to continuous on call responsibilities

Computer literate: Microsoft Office, SafeTrace, Business Objects and other programs as identified.
