Position Title: QC Lab Technical Supervisor

Reporting to the QC Lab Manager, this position is responsible for all technical aspects of the QC Lab. The position will supervise the training of new and existing staff, monitor quality assurance activities of the department, as well as development and maintenance of tools to monitor and improve performance, efficiencies, and product quality.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Function as Technical Consultant and Technical Supervisor (CLIA >88), and maintain departmental documents as required.
  • Perform essential duties of QC Specialist position at a highly skilled level.
  • Determines training objectives and develops training plans and checklists.
  • Creates and designs content of in-service, education and training materials.
  • Coordinates new hire rotations, in-services and training sessions.
  • Coordinates, monitors and/or delivers competency and proficiency assessments of other employees.
  • Responsible for training documentation compliance.
  • Develops training schedules.
  • Assists with ensuring compliance with AABB standards, CLIA and FDA regulations.
  • Participates in project and change management activities.
  • Assists in preparation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Acts as staff supervisor in absence of assistant manager or manager.
  • Participates in project and change management activities. 
  • Prepare departmental reports as needed.
  • Prepare prototype, data map, and workflow documents to aid in communication of changes to staff and other departments.
  • Responsible for corrective action plans for QIRs.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely processing, documentation and notification of bacterial cultures that signal positive.
  • Functions as MIS liaison for the department.
  • Complete at least 12 hours continuing education per year.
  • Participates in QC and QA improvements within the department.
  • Enforces The Blood Center's policies on EEO, Affirmative Action and Safety/Health.

We need someone who has:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related science from an accredited four-year college or university;
  • At least three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MT/MLS BB/SBB (ASCP or equivalent) is preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.  The employee is frequently exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
