This is a team-oriented position that requires strong communication skills, adaptability, self-motivation and collaboration within a positive work environment. This position performs CLIA moderate and high complexity testing. Under supervision, the position prepares and tests samples from blood components to determine if the products meet established quality control standards, and tests donor/patient and product samples for cell-based immunotherapy.  Involves frequent contact with internal and external customers, requiring good judgment, diplomacy and tact.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepares samples from blood components for quality control testing.
  • Moderate and High Complexity Tests: Performs testing, prepares reagents, and performs/documents quality control and preventive maintenance according to standard operating procedures and completes results in a timely manner. Updates results from workstation computer to the computer system and enters and verifies manual results and quarantines units as required. 
  • Moderate Complexity Tests: Reviews testing performed by other staff to ensure test validity prior to updating results to the computer system.
  • Performs apheresis platelet bacterial culture sampling, testing and test result entry into computer system.
  • Performs pathogen reduction of apheresis platelets.
  • Performs daily release procedure for apheresis platelets.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of instrumentation.
  • Assists in monitoring inventory.
  • Participates in quality control and quality assurance activities within the department.
  • Completes at least 12 hours continuing education per year.
  • Follows SOPs and complies with OSHA, FDA, AABB, cGMPs and other regulatory standards.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and exhibits team supportive behaviors. Actively helps team members to achieve optimal department results.
  • Assists with validations and projects as assigned.

 

We need someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a laboratory science and at least one-year job-related experience. Recent graduates within one-year will be considered.
  • MT/MLS, BB (ASCP or equivalent) is preferred.

DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PROVIDED AND KEPT IN PERSONNEL FILE FOR EMPLOYEES PERFORMING MODERATE OR HIGH COMPLEXITY TESTING

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood and blood components as well as other biohazard materials, moving mechanical parts and extreme cold.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
