Position Title: QC Specialist

Under supervision, this position prepares and tests samples from blood components to determine if the products meet established quality control standards. Involves frequent contact with internal and external customers, requiring good judgment, diplomacy and tact.

In this role, you will:
Perform essential duties of QC Tech III position at a highly skilled level.
Communicate with internal and external customers when positive bacterial cultures are identified.
Initiate recall of products with positive bacterial cultures.
Ensure follow-up testing on positive bacterial cultures is performed, documented, and results are communicated to external clients.
Review of QC documents in the absence of Supervisor / Manager.
Responsible for daily operations of QC Laboratory in the absence of Supervisor/Manager.
Responsible for tracking and trending QC for testing equipment.
Lead new hire and staff trainer.
Lead competency assessor.
Promptly reports to the Manager any problems, process, or staff issues that can affect timely release of products.
Monitors staff workflow, and triage tasks to coordinate work for better efficiency.
Proactively reviews operational processes to identify areas for improvement.
Complete at least 12 hours of continuing education per year.
We need someone who has:
MT/MLS from an accredited program with certification (ASCP or equivalent)
2 years or more of experience in Hematology
Flow Cytometery experience is a plus
DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PROVIDED AND KEPT IN PERSONNEL FILE FOR EMPLOYEES PERFORMING MODERATE OR HIGH COMPLEXITY TESTING

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood and blood components as well as other biohazard materials, moving mechanical parts and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
