SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to the Manager, position is primarily responsible for delivering training and performing competency assessments for both new employees and existing staff in laboratory that performs immunohematology testing; and supervising laboratory quality programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
· Determines training objectives and develops training plans and checklists.
· Creates and designs content of in-service, education and training materials.
· Coordinates new hire and student rotations, in-services and training sessions.
· Coordinates, monitors and/or delivers competency and proficiency assessments of other employees
· Responsible for training documentation compliance.
· Develops training schedules.
· Assists in preparation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
· Acts as staff supervisor in absence of assistant manager or manager.
· Devise and implement testing strategies to resolve serological problems and uphold quality standards.
· Review serologic work ups for correctness, completeness.
· Coordinates, monitors and performs equipment/reagent maintenance, validation, and qualification activities
· Monitor inventory of components, reagents, supplies, etc.
· Participate in internal and external education programs (MT, SBB, other).
· Assists with ensuring compliance with AABB standards and CLIA regulations.
· Participates in project and change management activities.
· Perform serological testing as needed.
· Prepare departmental reports as needed.
· Supervise quality control and quality assurance programs within the department
· Maintains expertise in and performs serologic testing as needed.
· Enforces The Blood Center’s policies on EEO, Safety and Health.

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.
Full time: must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.
Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)
Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
Weekend and Holidays

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MLS from an accredited program (ASCP or equivalent). BB/SBB strongly preferred, with 2 years recent experience in full-service immunohematology laboratory or blood bank.(within past 2 years) blood bank and experience/successful track record in delivering on-the-job adult training. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or equivalent
PROOF OF CERTIFICATION OF MUST BE PROVIDED AND KEPT IN PERSONNEL FILE.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent communication skills
Must be able to work irregular hours occasionally.
Computer Literate: Microsoft Office, Safetrace

Job duties involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
