TITLE/CODE: Trainer I
DEPARTMENT: Donor Collections Mobiles- Training and Quality
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to the Training Coordinator and Training Manager, the Training Specialist I is responsible for providing training to Donor Collections’ staff on all aspects of the collection process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
· Following prepared curricula, conducting training classes in the classroom and in the field.
· Demonstrating knowledge of best practices in training concepts and procedures.
· Present information using a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussion, videos or lectures.
· Teach at least 2 sessions (Screening and Phlebotomy) independently.
· Assisting in the preparation of training manuals.
· Conducting annual staff certification and administering competency assessments in CPR, First Aid and other areas as required.
· Maintaining proficient knowledge of Donor Collections standard operating procedures and ensuring training material and delivery follow cGMPs and comply with all applicable regulations.
· Communicate with internal and external customers and responds to client concerns in a timely and professional manner.
· Provide assessment, evaluation, monitoring and support of all aspects of collection site (Mobiles/NDCs) as needed.
Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others. Must comply with all applicable safety rules and policies and be willing to report actual and potential safety violations to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in The Blood Center’s sole discretion.
Full time: must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other days or hours per week as The Blood Center determines are necessary to meet business needs.
Overtime (applicable only to non-exempt positions)
Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as The Blood Center determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
Weekend and Holidays
Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as The Blood Center determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Must be regularly able to work at off-site locations and to either transport self or be transported to same.
The Training Specialist I may carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree from an accredited college or university plus 3 years experience in medical/training field and 3 years phlebotomy experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in adult education is highly desirable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Basic CardioLife Support Certificate (BCLS) or CPR Certification
Certificate as a professional trainer is desired
Valid Texas Drivers License and acceptable driving record
Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with donors so as to provide high level of customer service. Ability to interact professionally and politely with others. Ability to work in high pressure, fast paced environment. Ability to resolve conflicts.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, independently. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Written communications skills necessary, plus exceptional interpersonal skills.
Computer literate - Safetrace, Donor ID, Microsoft Office Applications.
Use of Audio-Visual Equipment.
Must be able to work irregular hours and weekends as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood and/or blood components, as well as any other biohazard materials. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but sometimes requires working at chemical plants, electrical plants, machine shops, where you may encounter chemicals, loud noises.
Job duties involved an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood with a risk of exposure to Hepatitis and HIV.
